Who I Am

I'm Nina Baker-Tillman, a Registered Nurse, Registered Radiologic Technologist, OEF/OIF Army Veteran, and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student. My path to psychiatric care wasn't a straight line, and that's exactly what makes me the provider I'm becoming.

I left bedside nursing to pursue my PMHNP after years of watching how deeply mental health intersects with every aspect of physical wellbeing. The COVID pandemic made the weight of that truth impossible to ignore, for patients, for nurses, and for me personally. I knew I needed to go where I could make the most meaningful difference.

I've navigated my own mental health challenges, and I still do. That lived experience doesn't disqualify me from this work. It qualifies me for it. I know what it feels like to need help and to not always know where to find it. When patients sit across from me, I want them to feel genuinely safe, protected, and certain that someone is truly in their corner.

I've been shaped by some of the best, mentors and leaders in both nursing and radiology who pushed me to think deeper, care harder, and never settle. Add to that the discipline, resilience, and perspective I carry as a veteran, and you get someone who shows up fully for her patients, her community, and herself.

People sometimes call me the people's champ. I'll take it. Northeast Florida deserves better access to psychiatric care, and I'm here to help provide it.
